Position Summary
The Actuarial Software Engineer is responsible for building calculation engines for top national clients in the Life and Annuities space, understanding of architecture, software best practices and supporting our suite of InsTech applications in the Life and Annuities space.
Deliverables and Performance Measures:
- Develop and Test Actuarial calculations for Life and Annuities Insurance Clients in C#, to penny precision
- Understand and follow established design patterns and implementation guidelines
- Develop expert proficiency in the Life and Annuity insurance domains related to assigned projects.
- Design, write, comment and unit test own code to ensure modules compile, are bug-free and are of the highest quality.
- Provide accurate estimates and status updates to clients and Hexure for all work
- Maintain good client relationships, establish trust and confidence with clients
- Foresee potential problems with client requirements or implementation details, and suggest solutions
- Expert in debugging, troubleshooting, interpreting error/exception logs
What will make you successful:
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in C# .NET development required
- 2+ years experience in Actuarial calculations, or related InsTech / Life / Annuities software development highly preferred
- Strong understanding of OOP concepts, and design patterns (e.g., MVC, MVVM) for building maintainable and scalable applications.
- In-depth knowledge of the .NET framework, including its core components, class libraries, and APIs, is crucial. Understanding frameworks like ASP.NET, Entity Framework is important.
- Proficiency in MS Excel to decode and review financial calculations and formulas
- Maintain detailed documentation of actuarial models & calculation methodologies
- Experience with database technologies such as SQL Server or MySQL, including writing complex queries, designing efficient database schemas, and understanding database performance optimization.
- Understanding the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies is important
- Familiarity with version control systems (TFS and/or GIT), issue tracking tools (JIRA), and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines preferred.
- Awareness of common security vulnerabilities and best practices for securing .NET applications, such as input validation, authentication, and authorization mechanisms.
- Professional experience with REACT is nice to have
- Proficiency in optimizing application performance, including techniques like caching, query optimization, and efficient resource utilization.
