The Web & TV Player team is responsible for all playback functionality on both the Web and TV Platforms. Whether streaming on netflix.com or on an NRDP-enabled TV Device (SmartTV, STB, or streaming sticks), we develop playback functionality for all modes of streaming SVOD, Ads, Live, and Cloud Games. The team manages all aspects of the client playback, from the state machine, license, and metadata management to delivery of streaming media to the sink device, ensuring top quality and best-in-class streaming QoE.
The Team
The Web & TV Player team sits at the nexus of a diverse set of innovative activities around product feature expansion (recent playback features include Live Streaming, Dynamic Ads Insertion, and Ident innovation), A/B experimentation of new encodes (ex: AV1) to increase adoption, support for new security features, content discovery and playback control on companion devices, as well as continuous integration and release management of our video player. We partner with various cross-functional teams across Netflix, including UI, Encoding, Streaming Algorithms, Security, and Open Connect for product development and experimentation.
Our team comprises engineers from diverse backgrounds with various expertise across different disciplines (Embedded systems, Streaming Media Playback, Content Protection, Web Technologies, Client Server Communication, Networking protocols, Continuous Integration, Test Automation, Experimentation, and Software engineering). The Role
We are looking for a software engineer to join our team in enhancing our video player with new features and tackle challenges to improve streaming quality and reach across both TV and Web devices. In this role, you will develop new features, conduct A/B experiments, analyze the data, influence decision-making, roll out new playback features to millions of devices worldwide.

What skills are essential to us?
- Have 3+ years of software development experience with streaming media playback and/or developing software to manage audio video playback on devices.
- Proficient in Typescript and Node.js.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with A/B testing, developing experiments to test hypotheses, and analyzing data to drive improvements in streaming quality.
- Knowledge of adaptive streaming technologies MPEG DASH, HTML5 MSE and EME is nice to have.
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical issues cross-functionally.
- Experience with shipping software at scale is a big plus
- Experience developing software on SmartTV’s, SetTop boxes or Streaming sticks is a big plus.
